Dr.Janak Mehta Best Paper Award

Proposal: Proposed by Dr Yatin Mehta on November 15th, 1997 in memory of his uncle-The first cardiac anesthetist of India.

Date and time of the Dr Janak Mehta paper presentation: The selected six papers will bepresented in the forenoon (pre-lunch) of the second day of the conference on 8th February (Saturday).

Eligibility: Dr Janak Mehta Best Paper Award is given to the best paper in ORIGINAL RESEARCH presented by a junior member (age less than 35 years) of the Association at the IACTA Annual Conference. All presenters should be member of IACTA and should be a registered delegate for the conference.


  1. Applications for the Janak Mehta Best Paper Award should be sent as a submission to the organizing committee as routine submission with a title “Submission for Janak Mehta Award” on the Title Page.The email for submitting the Manuscript is abstract2020.goa@gmail.com. Only registered delegates may send in their manuscripts.You will receive a confirmation.
  2. Only Original Work (no case reports) will be considered. Only one paper from one individual can be submitted.
  3. Authors/Presenters should make sure that the copyright form signed by all co-authors, institute ethics committee clearance form and other relevant documents are sent by email and shall respond to any query raised by the scientific committee chairperson or chief editor.
  4. How to prepare a Manuscript- The Manuscript is to be prepared along standard guidelines laid out for article submission for the “Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia”.Kindly log on to http://www.annals.in/contributors.asp and follow the instructions on “Preparation of Manuscriptwith instructions for Title Page, Abstract Page, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Ethics, Statistics, Results, Discussion an References.

  6. A Title page with the following details will be needed for contacting the presenter.
  7. Please ensure that the duly signed Copyright form(Click here) /Institutional Ethics clearance statement or form / Title page / and the Full manuscript with all the sub headings is submitted by e mail.After the submission of the papers, the selection of the six best papers will be done by the Chief Editor and the jury. During this entire process, the identity of the contributors and their institute is not revealed to the reviewers.The list of selected papers will be informed to the IACTACON 2020 Organizing Team which in turn will inform the contributors.
  8. From the date the authors of these six papers are informed by email, none of the six can send these papers for publication or presentation at any other platform.
  9. Out of all submitted papers, the papers which are not selected as part of the final six are informed by the organizing secretaryabout the decision of jury. The authors of these papers can present their papers in free paper session and the format which will be informed.
  10. The last date of submission for 2020 conference is January 15th 2020.
  11. In case of falsification of any nature or suppression of any material information which come to the knowledge of IACTA before presentation or after presentation at any later date, the award, citation/certificate and the award money will be recalled, and the impropriety shall be officially communicated to head of the department, to head of the institution and to the Institute Ethics Committee and the principle investigator. Principal investigator, co-investigators and the presenter shall be expelled from the primary membership of IACTA for a period of at least 10 years and they all shall not be eligible to contest for any official position of IACTA for a further period of 5/10 years from the date of re-instatement as decided by IACTA GBM.

Publication of selected papers in the Journal “Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia”:

  1. It is desirable that you ALSO submit your manuscript to the “Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia”.Please log on to http://www.journalonweb.com/aca/ and Register yourself as an author and follow the simple instructions. In the second page of submission on the site-choose the Janak Mehta option and submit your work. A separate and parallel review will be undertaken by the journal review board. Please note that this process is not an alternative for the above mentioned submission of the manuscript to the abstract2020.goa@gmail.com in order to be considered for the Dr Janak Mehta award.
  2. The paper which wins the Janak Mehta Best Paper award will be published in the Annals of Cardiac Anesthesia as an original article after going through the review process of the journal. Below the title of the article it will be written in the journal as “Winner of Janak Mehta Best Paper Award - 2020”. The remaining 5 selected papers will be reviewed and if found suitable will be accepted for publication. On the decision of the Chief editor, if a paper is found not suitable for ACA, the author is informed and then that author is free to send it to any other journal. Till the Chief Editor takes the decision on these six papers, these are the property of ACA and they cannot be sent to any other place for publication or presentation.
